The peer reviewers who looked over our draft made some requests, including a brief description of the role of Faculty Developer. Can you provide 3 sentences or so about your role and the CTL? For reference, the component we are addressing is, "3.C.5. The institution has processes and resources for assuring that instructors are current in their disciplines and adept in their teaching roles; it supports their professional development."
Answer
The CTL Director role and Faculty Developer are different roles because Faculty Developers are funded by the district.
CTL Director:
Provides strategic vision and oversight for faculty development. Oversee instructional support, resources, programming, and training to foster professional growth. Responsible for strategic planning, instructional technology, and continuous improvement of development programs, supporting teaching excellence, leadership, and innovation.
Faculty Developer:
The role of the Faculty Developer (FD) is to guide Probationary Faculty through the Probationary Faculty Peer Assistance and Review (PAR) process and to promote and facilitate professional growth opportunities for the faculty. The Faculty Developer will serve as the resource expert for all PAR teams. It is not expected that the FD will participate in Probationary Faculty assessments, observations, or any other evaluative activities. (See RFP §3.5.). To facilitate the mission of faculty development, a Faculty Developer supports a culture of “learning among teachers” for all faculty--inclusive of residential, adjunct, one-semester only (OSO), one-year-only (OYO), and dual enrollment--to build a comprehensive program of faculty learning in collaboration with other faculty learning partners and programs such as the MCLI; VP Academic Affairs; MCCCD and EOLT staff; CTL faculty and staff; FPG staff and faculty representatives; faculty leads in instructional initiatives such as global education, diversity, assessment, PAR facilitation, etc.
The other CTL role: Training Development Consultant
Identify, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate training & organizational development programs & strategies for the development and enhancement of employee knowledge and skills, and to drive and support organizational effectiveness.
