There are many options, and here is a list to get you started identifying the tools that will meet your research needs. Note: these tools are not currently supported by South Mountain Community College for students and faculty so you will be required to created personal accounts.

AI research tools are software applications that assist with various stages of research, such as literature reviews, data analysis, writing, and collaboration. These tools use machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and predictive analytics to enhance research efficiency and accuracy. Here are some of the best AI research tools available:

• FutureHouse Platform: the first publicly available superintelligent scientific agents to scientists everywhere via a web interface and API. Try it out for free at https://platform.futurehouse.org.
• Research Rabbit: A citation-based mapping tool that focuses on the relationships between research works. It uses visualizations to help researchers find similar papers and other researchers in their field. Research Rabbit is currently free.
• scite: A suite of products that help researchers develop their topics, find papers, and search citations in context, indicating whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is not free; see pricing information for details.
• ChatGPT: While primarily thought of as a writing tool, ChatGPT can be used in the initial idea development phase of research. It is regularly updated and can search the web when logged in. There is a free version available.
• Gemini: An AI-powered chatbot designed by Google that responds to natural language queries with relevant information. It can aid in topic development and initial source discovery. It is free with paid subscriptions available, and a personal Google account is required.
• Litmaps: A tool for visual citation mapping, literature tracking, and collaborative research. It offers intuitive visualization and real-time updates, making it ideal for researchers tracking citations and mapping research connections.
• Semantic Scholar: An AI-powered academic search engine that provides AI-driven filtering and citation analysis. It is best for researchers looking for relevant academic literature.
• Elicit: An AI research assistant that helps with summarizing papers, extracting data, and synthesizing findings. It is used by over 2 million researchers and is particularly useful for empirical domains like biomedicine and machine learning.
