If the library databases refer out to a source that is not compliant - is that SMCC's problem?

Answer

Yes. If we direct students to a third-party tool or resource that is not accessible, we are still responsible for ensuring equitable access. SMC has an obligation to provide accessible materials, regardless of the vendor. If a student cannot use a recommended resource due to accessibility barriers, it does not meet compliance standards under Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA. Always verify accessibility before integrating external tools into course content.
